Update - Trying to make up!

Okay so I am posting pics from the last month. I got in way too deep and couldn't keep up. Once I had too many I gave up so I am just posting them all now. The file names are the dates, if you are interested. I am still gonna have to catch up after this but at least there is something to look at. I missed a lot of days because of spring break and professional development.

Enjoy

Just a word on this. They put it in school but it doesn't work yet. But I had to laugh at the bottom where it says "Eat Healthy Live Healthy" as they sell Flavored Doritos and Lays. Marketers are great at doing the opposite of what they say they are doing.

Friday, Mar 12 - Fried Mozzarella Sticks

Yesterday I was gone working at an event and unable to get a picture of the lunch. Today I noticed a student with a very different looking lunch and approached him. He told me he snuck up to the cafeteria and got lunch. Apparently he knows one of the women who work there and calls her "grandma". I got a picture of his meal for comparison. Remember, both the regular lunch and the student lunch are made in the cafeteria, but the trays are all the same while students who go directly to the cafeteria have a choice.

Regular Lunch:

- 5 Fried Mozzarella Sticks
- 1/4 of a small potato
- 1/4 Cup of tomato dipping sauce

Versus Student Selected Cafeteria Lunch:

- 1 piece of flat bread
- large piece of meat (beef?) about 1.5 card packs
- Bell pepper onion sauce mix
- 3 potato quarters
- 2 Clementines

Monday, Feb 8 - Beef Pockets or Chick Patties

Today we had the unusual food heater brought down. It kind of looks like a fridge and is on wheels. I got a picture for you! I later Found out the reason they brought down the heater was actually just because they ran out of lids for the normal tins. I failed to get a good picture of the buns (which came in bulk size sealed plastic wrap, if you wanted to know). Students were served on Styrofoam trays and were able to get whatever they wanted. The food did not go quickly, I am sure there was a lot left over.

Monday, Jan 25 - Grilled Cheese

Sorry for the late update. I have been kind of behind. This week, Tuesday through Friday, is regents week. Students around NYC are taking their regents test in various subjects(a standardized test to pass high school). Students at my school are exempted from all but the English regents. Instead they do Performance Based Assessment Tests, or PBATS. It consists of writing a large report style paper on a subject and then presenting it in an interview format to a panel who judges it. Anyway, the point is there are practically no kids and school and therefore the lunch is extremely reduced.

Furthermore, I am at another high school doing professional development, so I haven't been able to take any pictures. Monday is a staff only day so I will be back Tuesday. I will definitely try to post the day I take the pics!

- 1/2 Cup mixed veggies (carrots, broccoli, cauliflower)

It wasn't very popular, as evidenced by this left behind lunch with just 2 or 3 bites out of it.
